Colour Trends For 2024
A new year brings fresh colour palettes and endless styling opportunities for your wardrobe. Join me as I dive into my favourite colour trends for 2024
Growing up I always knew what I liked to wear, even back in my early teens the selling point was was often down to the colour or print, how the fabric felt and ensuring that I truly loved what I was buying, rather than going straight for the latest thing without much thought, in order to fit in.
I love the start of a new season and finding out which key looks are dominating the high streets, often for me I see the new trends as an opportunity to dig around in my own wardrobe to rediscover something that I already have, to look for something that I know I love but maybe don’t own, or as a way to inject a new vibe into my look as long as it correlated with my own signature style and works within my existing wardrobe.
These days trends can mean too much choice of the same thing, so it’s important to shop for the best quality version that you can afford so you can rest assured that your money is well spent and what you are purchasing stands the test of time. Quality doesn’t always have to mean expensive, some of my cheaper purchases have lasted a hell of a lot longer than some more expensive ones, so look for durable fabrics such as cotton knitwear as opposed to cheap synthetic mixed blended knitwear, or a heavy viscose rather than cheap cotton as you should find it washes better.
Once I know exactly what I am looking for to fill a gap(s) in my wardrobe, now is the time to source it and stock up so I can enjoy wearing that particular style for longer than it will be ‘in fashion’ and could suddenly be quite tricky to find.
An example of this was when leopard print took over in 2020-2021, it was everywhere!! Leopard and other animal print like zebra and tiger have been a firm favourite of mine for years, and as I know that my style is likely to remain similar for quite some time, I used that opportunity to get myself leopard jeans, zebra jeans, leopard skirt, leopard coat, leopard fleece, leopard dressing gown leopard underwear….(you get the idea!) before they became harder to get my hands on.
As fashion is circular and works on a 20-25 year cycle, another way to shop the trends and update your look is to shop second hand and scour charity shops for the latest look. There is something so satisfying in sourcing and breathing a new lease of life to a pre loved item of clothing, styling it in a new way and doing your bit in reducing over consumerism, pollution and waste created by the fast fashion industry.
Spring Colour Trends
As we move forward into a new year I am instantly thinking about Spring. It’s usually a time when colour is in abundance on the catwalks, with the last few years of maximalism and colour domination following lockdown while we all celebrated by having fun with our wardrobes, we have seen a shift over the last twelve months with a much more muted palette taking centre stage, and for 2024 it looks like minimalism is here to stay.
Charcoal is definitely still the new black and brown is the new camel. So what does this mean for those of us who still love colour? The best place it start is with the Pantone Colour of The Year - “Pantone provides a universal language of colour that enables color-critical decisions through every stage of the workflow for brands and manufacturers. More than 10 million designers and producers around the world rely on Pantone products and services to help define, communicate and control colour from inspiration to realisation – across various materials and finishes for graphics, fashion and product design.”
The 2024 Pantone colour of the Year is…
Peach Fuzz
Peach works well in different shades to create a tonal look or is a lovely way to freshen up a darker colour palette. So instead of a neutral such as white or cream, opt for peach to lift dark denim, khaki and charcoal. If warm peachy shades aren’t in your colour palette and you find that they drain your complexion or make you appear sallow, then try deeper and richer shades of terracotta which is also a big shade for this season or opt for bright and zingy shades of orange instead.
You can also incorporate peach into your outfit by wearing it on the bottom half such as trousers, a skirt or footwear if you prefer the warmer shades to be away from your face.

Red
Red was definitely the colour to be seen in at the back end of last year, but before you pack it all away with your festive attire hold fire as it is here to stay right through 2024.
Think colour pops against a neutral palette such as a red beanie, red socks, red tights, bags and footwear - or be braver with a statement red dress, a pair of striking red trousers or a coat and experiment with colour blocking shades like red & pink, red & orange or red & baby blue.
