Weekly Top Picks
Welcome to this week's edition of my weekly top picks featuring inspiration on how to wear double denim in style.
Double denim became a fashion statement to be seen in during the 80’s and 90’s thanks to the likes of fashion icon Debbie Harry, Charlies Angles and George Michael, with starts such as Britney and Justin Timberlake keeping the look going strong into the noughties. It’s a look that it seems never goes out of fashion - but often one that a lot of people are afraid to try for the fear of doing it ‘wrong’, but is there such a thing?
For me, I feel that the most effective and eye catching way to work with double denim is to either opt for high contrast or denim of a similar tone, this way the look appears more intentional and stands out as being more considered.
Here are three ways that you could try working some of your existing denim pieces in your wardrobe, or inject some newness this spring with a new key piece or two. I have included styles that I feel are super versatile and that appeal to a range of style personalities from tailoring to super casual vibes.
I have featured staples like denim waistcoats that can be worn solely as a top, layered up over t-shirts, dresses & shirts. Tailored denim can be a really chic way to style denim in the workplace or made more casual for every day with trainers. The come back of maxi denim skirts has taken me a while to warm to but I can finally say that I am now fully on board with them after seeing so many of my clients look so fabulous in them over the last six months, they are such a brilliant alternative to jeans and I have found are especially great for those of us who are tummy conscious.
I hope you enjoy reading and do let me know how you get on with styling your denim pieces together - have fun experimenting and you know where I am if you get stuck.
